John Street House
Woollahra
Occasionally a project calls for a more subtle intervention, this house, in a leafy Woollahra street, is such a home.
With strong neoclassical proportions, this home required replanning of its ground floor, adding a laundry and pantry, relocating the kitchen to the centre of the home and demolishing dividing walls to create free-flowing living and dining areas.
Removing brick columns, a small rear terrace and small pool enabled us to create an off-form concrete frame supporting a new balcony above, allowing the rear elevation to become a continuous wall of glazing connecting the interior to a larger garden. A central skylit void was reshaped to accommodate a generous ensuite and new study area.
Throughout, Stark Design collaborated to layer the home with luxurious, textured interiors and thoughtful landscaping, resulting in a revitalised city home connected to light and its garden.
