  • Philip  Corben

    Philip Corben

    Managing Director

    Philip graduated from UNSW in 1980 and worked with the respected firms of Cox Architects, Clarke Perry Blackmore and Architecture Oceania for ten years.  In 1990, he established Corben Architects with a principal commitment to quality residential architecture with a high level of client service. 

    Whilst Philip overviews every project in the office, he is predominantly involved in the design review and client liaison. As managing director, he is also responsible for the business management of the practice, assisted by office manager Janelle Alexander and administration manager Alison Weavers.

    Outside work, Philip shares his time with his interior stylist wife Lucy, his three daughters and two grandsons.  He also tries to find time for his loves of yoga, surfing, sailing, snow skiing and cycling and escaping to his beachside hideaway in Byron Bay.

  • Mohit Keni

    Mohit Keni

    After graduating in Architecture from India in 1992, Mohit moved to Sydney to undertake his Masters degree at the University of NSW. Mohit worked at Baker Associate Architects for 4 years before joining Corben Architects in 1999.

    Mohit is a passionate architect with excellent design and documentation skills. He acts as one of the Directors in charge of the larger scale domestic residential projects in the practice. Mohit was appointed an Associate in 2000 and a Director in 2007.

    Outside of work, Mohit shares his time between the two loves of his life, his young family and sport. He is passionate about cricket and is still chasing that elusive 'ace' on the golf course.

  • Mark Clark

    Mark Clark

    Following a five year career as a solicitor, Mark moved to Architecture and graduated with Honours in 1995. He first worked for Andre Porebski and Associates for three years before joining Corben Architects in 1998.

    Mark acts as one of the Directors in charge on the larger scale domestic residential projects in the office. He has outstanding design and documentation skills and is an excellent communicator. He was appointed an Associate in 2000 and a Director in 2007.

    Mark has a strong interest in art, architecture and landscape design. Whilst enjoying city life during the week, he often escapes to his Palm Beach residence where he spends most weekends.

  • Andrew Vingilis

    Andrew Vingilis

    Andrew commenced work in an architectural practice in 1981 and graduated from the University of Technology Sydney in 1989.

    He worked for several recognised practices including Tanner Architects, Feiko Bouman Architects, Andre Porebski and Associates and Stokes, Hayes and Kanas as the design and project architect on residential projects, educational, commercial and heritage projects. He then worked in his own practice for 5 years specializing in single and multi unit residential projects before joining Corben Architects in 2007. Andrew was appointed as an Associate Director in 2011.

    Outside work, Andrew loves to travel, cook, ride his mountain bike, spend time with family and friends or catch up with mates at the footy or a round of golf.

  • Anita Kane

    Anita Kane

    Associate

    B.Arch, NSW ARAIA Reg no. 8434

    Anita commenced her professional career at an early age providing drafting services for her sole practitioner father before working with Mark Hurcum Design Practice as a student architect.

    Anita graduated from the University of Sydney in 2003 and joined the team at Corben Architects where she manages numerous medium sized residential projects. She has also been instrumental in establishing the Corben Architects CAD protocols. Anita was appointed an Associate in 2007.

    Outside of work, Anita shares her time between a busy family and social life, sampling many of the northern beaches culinary delights, yoga, hiking and chasing her husband up mountains in Australia’s wild and remote regions.

  • Spencer Jones

    Spencer Jones

    Senior Project Architect

    Born and educated in the UK, Spencer graduated from De Montfort University, Leicester and University of North London where he completed his architectural qualifications.

    Spencer worked on luxury residential architecture, commercial offices and regeneration projects in London before meeting his Australian wife and relocating to Sydney in 2005. He joined the Corben Architects team shortly after where he has worked for the last 13 years on numerous high end residential projects.

    Two young boys keep him busy and weekends usually include playing or supervising soccer games and paddling the waters of Middle Harbour with Sydney Outriggers.

  • Gill Gan

    Gill Gan

    Gill’s early career involved working on medium density residential projects in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, shopping centres in Japan for the US firm, RTKL, and single residential projects for Sandberg Schoffel Architects.  

    Gill joined Corben Architects in 2008 and is one of our senior project architects responsible for the running of numerous residential projects. 

    Outside work Gill spends time with her young family and enjoys the outdoor life on the northern beaches - body boarding, running and chasing a soccer ball around the futsal court with the Allambie Lambs.

  • Adam Higginbotham

    Adam Higginbotham

    Senior Project Architect

    B.Des (Arch) M.Arch Grad Dip Env Law ARAIA Reg no. 9430

    Graduating from the University of Sydney in 2009, Adam was the recipient of the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter Prize and the James Hartley Bibby Memorial Scholarship.

    Adam worked for a number of larger scale, award winning Australian architectural practices before joining Corben Architects in 2016 to take on a senior design role. He is responsible for managing numerous residential projects and is part of the studio’s BIM management and development team.

    Adam also tutors architecture and interior design students, teaches digital design skills and is a tertiary architecture mentor for the Smith Family. When not renovating his own home, Adam takes every opportunity to travel and enjoys a fit and active lifestyle.

  • Amy Eccles

    Amy graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2012. Whilst studying, she participated in an overseas exchange programme giving her the opportunity to live and study in Sweden. Her studies culminated in her registration as an Architect in 2017.

    Amy joined Corben Architects after graduating and has worked on a wide range of residential projects of varying scales. She particularly enjoys the process of working directly with clients to create their dream homes.

    Recently married, Amy and her husband share a love of the outdoors, spending their weekends and holidays hiking, biking, skiing and surfing.

  • Yun (Spark) Gao

    Yun, or as everyone calls him ‘Spark’, moved from Shanghai to Sydney in 2003. After 5 years studying architecture at the University of Sydney he worked for several small to medium scale architectural firms.

    Spark joined Corben Architects in 2014 and has worked on numerous high-end residential projects ranging from alterations & additions to substantial new builds.  Spark became a registered architect in 2017. Fluent in Mandarin he is a great asset to our practice and our numerous Chinese clients.

    Outside work Spark enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures.

  • Daniel Nunez

    Daniel Nunez

    After graduating from interior design and architecture in 2012, Daniel worked in Colombia for several design focused practices. In 2015 he moved to Sydney where he finished his Masters in Project Management.

    Prior to joining Corben Architects in 2017, Daniel worked as a graduate architect for a small architecture studio specializing in multi residential projects and as a project manager for a commercial practice.

    Daniel is passionate about architecture as a collaborative process with a social and environmental impact. In his free time, Daniel enjoys outdoor activities and looking for secluded beaches and hikes.

  • Bianca Gomes

    After graduating in Architecture and Urbanism in Brazil in 2011, Bianca moved to Sydney in 2012 where she completed her Masters of Business and Project Management in 2015. 

    Bianca first worked as a Town Planning Assistant and then a graduate architect for a small architectural studio before joining Corben Architects in early 2018.

    Bianca loves the outdoors and tries to include her dog ‘Buddy’ in all of her weekend activities.

  • Veronica Bonn

    Veronica completed her Masters in Architecture in Italy and then lived in Germany for several years. In 2015, she relocated to Sydney where she has worked on numerous projects of various scales and architecture type. She joined Corben Architects in early 2018. 

    Veronica is endlessly intrigued by how people work and play in various built and natural environments around the world. She is passionate about discovering new cultures and promoting Italian design in Australia. 

    In her spare time, Veronica enjoys strolling through art galleries and exploring Sydney’s remote beaches.

  • Karina Kerr

    Karina Kerr

    Senior Interior Architect

    B.Des (Interiors)

    Karina completed her Interior Design degree at UTS in 2004. She spent her first two years working in a small residential practice, followed by eleven years at FJMT, taking a leading role in their interiors team working on a broad range of large scale residential and commercial projects.

    After the arrival of her two children, the aspiration for creating the perfect home brought her back to residential design where her real passion lies. Joining Corben Architects in 2017 Karina has built up the interiors division of the practice based on the design principles of the practice.

    Karina enjoys spending time outdoors, going to the beach, bike rides with her young family and playing competitive hockey. 

  • Anna Wheeler

    Anna completed a Bachelors of Interior Architecture at the University of New South Wales in 2014 after living in New York for 4 years.

    Following graduation, Anna expanded her residential architectural experience working as a project Architect for a small practise where she was exposed to a broad range of projects.  Her favourite aspect of the design process is transforming a brief from a checklist into a living environment that is tailor-made to the client.

    Outside work, Anna enjoys exploring different areas of Sydney, long coastal and bush walks, and catching up with friends. She also enjoys skiing whenever there is fresh snow, playing tennis and golf, and living an active lifestyle.

  • Lucy Purchas

    Lucy Purchas

    Interior Stylist

    Lucy worked in the travel, advertising, restaurant, functions and events management industries for over 20 years. With a passion for interior design, she started helping friends with the styling and fitout of their houses some 13 years ago.

    Lucy just happens to be married to Philip Corben so it was only a matter of time before she started working with Corben Architects on the interior styling of their projects.

    Outside work, Lucy keeps active with early morning gym workouts, long walks and joining Phil at Ayindi, their Byron Bay beachside hideaway that she also manages as a luxury holiday rental.

  • Alex Richardson

    Alex Richardson

    Architecture Student

    Alex is currently completing a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney.

    Alex began working part time as an architectural student at Corben Architects in mid 2017. He provides administration support and CAD documentation and modelling of numerous projects. 

    Outside of work, Alex spends his spare time with his family, friends and partner. He has a strong passion for all things automotive and mechanical and loves working on his cars and taking long drives.

  • Debra Lane

    Debra Lane

    Accounts Manager

    After attending the University of Melbourne and Swinburne, Debra migrated to what her youthful eyes perceived as the scintillating city of Sydney. A thirteen-year career at Citibank culminated in the role of vice president of loan administration for the corporate real estate division. 

    After the eye-opening experience of bringing up 2 children, she returned to study to become an independent BAS agent. Debra undertakes accounting and bookkeeping services for Corben Architects who she cites as one of her favourite clients.

    Simple pleasures include family time, early morning power walks, gardening, reading and films.

  • Janelle Alexander

    Janelle Alexander

    Office Manager

    B. Sc

    Janelle is in the unique position of being a past client and living in a Corben Architect designed home. Whilst she has a background in Sports Science and Exercise Physiology, she joined Corben Architects in 2014 responsible for the office management, project resourcing and finances.

    She is often the first point of contact for new clients and has a genuine appreciation of their requirements and a thorough understanding of the design and construction process.

    Outside the Corben Architects office and home, Janelle is a keen cyclist and loves her early morning assaults of the hills of Mosman and Sydney’s National Parks. She also travels to Europe each year where she cycles the Alps of Italy, France and Spain with her husband.

  • Alison Weavers

    Alison Weavers

    Administration Manager

    Alison is a fully qualified architect with over 15 years experience working in Hong Kong and London. After becoming a director at a large commercial architectural firm in London, she and her husband decided to return to Australia to spend more time with her family and bring up their two young daughters.

    Alison joined Corben Architects in 2015 to focus on the office administration, marketing and human resources of the practice.

    Alison enjoys a perfect work life balance of flexible hours and the convenience of the Corben Architects office located mid-way between her home and children’s school.
